EDUCATION OF HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS AND EVERYDAY CITIZENS

When taking into consideration the rapid advances in applied human genetics that are being made on a daily bases, a further education of healthcare professionals, psychologists, dialectologists and the population in general is needed. In this section educational posts will be made in order to further this education.

SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN THAT HAVE PROBLEMS LEARNING-RAISING THE AWARNESS OF THE PARENTS

If the child is not preforming well when it comes to school and studying, it can create tension in the family. Feuds between parents are possible in these kinds of situations. Feuds arise due to the parents blaming each other for the child’s state. The child notices all of this and a perpetual cycle is formed. There is also the possibilities of parents being blinded by their desire for success and not even noticing the child’s wants or needs. In this situation the child is often viewed by the parents as the source of all the problems. Parents will often say the following to the child: “We work and insure you the best of conditions for your studies, and this is how you return the favor”. A mutual disrespect and distrust between the child and parents is born and can be felt even when the child matures later in life (especially in family gatherings).

In order to avoid the above mentioned situation the parents must be made aware. But how?

PARENTS MUST KNOW AND ACCEPT THE FOLLOWING

Learning is a complex process which is influenced by both genetic and outside factors. There are children which are gifted for learning but do not see it as interesting or stimulating, on the other hand there are children that are interested and motivated to learn but are not genetically gifted. Based on these facts we can split children which have problems learning into two separate groups

I Children which are genetically gifted to learn but lack the motivation to do so
The child can learn effectively but lacks motivation. The child can learn a lot in a short time frame. Learning is not a strenuous task for the child. This kind of child is socially well integrated. It is not hyperactive. It doesn’t have problems with attention, depression, anxiety, uncontrolled euphoria and so on. The child simply doesn’t like learning. In this scenario the best thing that the parents can do is offer their support and to talk and acknowledge the child’s choices. Studying is not the be all and end all of everything. Maybe the child is more interested in sports, art, and music and so on. Parents should offer their support in order for the child to realize its full potential
II Children which are motivated but have a genetic handicapped (they try hard but just can’t)

The child has a genetic handicap when it comes to learning. These children usually have difficulties socializing. These children usually have anxiety, depression, restlessness and even problems sleeping. Physical health issue are also usually present.

This kind of child should not be pressured in any way, shape or form. However, the opposite is always almost true. In their greed for success and in their irrational fears, the child’s parents begin pressuring it uncontrollably. A bad situation in the family is formed, which can lead to a break up of said family. This is particularly bad if the child feels that it is the cause of said problems. The child’s wishes to change but just can’t. In this case the parent’s need to be made aware of their child’s condition. The child’s parents need to be made aware and need to confront and accept their child’s condition as it stands. Only after this has been done can the parent’s attitude begin to change. Negative pressure, such as punishment, should not be made with these children. A positive approach of encouragement and a nice family environment is needed in order for these children to realize their potential. Making the parents aware of their child’s state is key for their as well as the family’s future happiness
